PERROT, Jean-Luc Variations romantiques sur O filii et filiæ pour deux orgues

32.00

The Romantic Variations on O filii et filiæ were written to celebrate the restoration by the Michel Jurine organ-building firm of the Abbey/Debierre chancel organ of Moulins Cathedral. This work, for two organs, takes into account the registrations of both the small chancel organ and the large Joseph Merklin gallery organ (built in 1880 and still intact).

One of the particularities of this work lies in the fact that the successive variations are composed following an ascending (diatonic) scale (C, D, E, F, G, A). Each variation may be played separately. A vocal ensemble, harmonising with the small-organ part, may be added for the last variation (in A). The tempo for the latter is not indicated; it will be chosen to suit the acoustics of the place of performance.

Given the distance between two instruments in the same building, some tolerance is due where rhythm is concerned. In order to facilitate the dialogue between the two organs, musicians must feel free to place fermata wherever necessary in the score; this will make for greater metrical flexibility.

I have dedicated this work to my friend Alexis Droy – a wonderful interpreter of many repertoires.
